Spatial reasoning tests measure how well you visualise, rotate, and manipulate shapes in your mind. They are a core requirement in Spanish oposiciones, pilot selection, and technical roles.
Spatial reasoning tests (also called spatial ability, spatial awareness, or visual reasoning tests) assess your ability to picture objects in two and three dimensions and to manipulate them mentally, rotating, folding, unfolding, reflecting, and slicing them. Unlike numerical or verbal tests, they rely on visualisation rather than language or arithmetic, which makes them a fair measure across languages and a favourite for technical and safety-critical selection. In Spain they are a fixed component of the oposiciones psychotechnical exams (Defensa, Tropa y Marinería, Policía Nacional, Guardia Civil), and internationally they appear in pilot, air traffic control, engineering, and skilled-trade selection.

Decide which of several shapes is the same object as the original, simply rotated. The most common format. Distractors are usually mirrored rather than rotated.
A flat net is folded into a cube (or box). Identify the resulting 3D shape, or determine which faces end up opposite or adjacent to each other.
Identify the correct reflection of a shape, figure, or sequence of letters across a vertical or horizontal axis. Tests left/right reversal under time pressure.
Determine the shape produced by slicing a solid, or count the cubes in a stack including those hidden behind or beneath others.
Track direction and position after a series of turns, or work out a route and bearing on a map or plan. Common in police, military, and emergency-services exams.

Never try to picture a full 3D rotation in one move. Turn the object around a single axis, check what changed, then turn it around the next. This is slower per step but far more accurate.
Pick one distinctive detail (an arrow, a dot, a notch) and track only that feature through the transformation. If it ends up in the wrong place, the option is wrong, no need to check the rest.
The most common distractor is a reflection, not a rotation. A mirrored object can never be rotated into the original. Check handedness, which side a feature sits on, before anything else.
In a row of four faces folded into a cube, faces two apart are always opposite. Faces that share an edge in the net are always adjacent. Knowing these rules turns most net questions into a few seconds of work.
For block-counting questions, count each horizontal layer separately and add up. Hidden cubes are the point of the question. A cube supporting another cube must exist even if you cannot see it.
If the test allows scrap paper, sketch the object or use your hand to represent the rotation. Physical anchoring reduces the working-memory load, which is what most candidates run out of.
