Most sequences have 2-3 simultaneous rules. Identifying the first rule is easy. The second rule is what distinguishes top scorers.
If you can't identify the rule, use elimination. Often 2-3 options can be ruled out quickly, leaving a 50/50 choice.
Don't stare at the whole pattern. Focus on one attribute at a time: first count elements, then check rotation, then check colour, etc.
