Overview

Tropa y Marinería is the enlisted entry route into the Spanish Armed Forces (Ejército de Tierra, Armada, Ejército del Aire y del Espacio). What makes this convocatoria unusual is the weight of the psychometrics: the psicotécnico is fully computerised, taken individually, and counts for 70% of the final grade, by far the heaviest single component of the whole selection. It consists of 7 factors × 15 questions = 105 questions, and wrong answers do not count against you. Official information is published at reclutamiento.defensa.gob.es.

Application Process

1

Convocatoria & Online Application

Per convocatoria

The convocatoria (published by the Ministerio de Defensa, see reclutamiento.defensa.gob.es) sets the number of plazas, the ciclos and the calendar. Application is made online within the stated window.

2

Psicotécnico (70% of the final grade)

Individual computerised session

Fully computerised and taken individually. 7 factors × 15 questions = 105 questions in total: Verbal, Numérico, Espacial, Mecánico, Perceptivo, Memoria and Razonamiento Abstracto. Wrong answers do not count against you. Leaving a question blank scores exactly the same as getting it wrong.

Insider Tips

The psicotécnico is 70% of your final grade. Every hour you spend on it is worth more than any other part of the process. Treat it as the main event, not a formality.

There is no negative marking: never leave a question blank. A guess has upside and no downside.

It is 7 factors × 15 questions = 105 questions. Practise all seven. Most candidates neglect Mecánico and Memoria, and those are exactly where marks are cheapest to gain.

Mecánico is about basic physical principles (gears, levers, pulleys), not engineering. A few hours on gear ratios and lever arms goes a long way.

The test is computerised and individual. Practise on screen, not on paper, so the interface is not a surprise on the day.

The nota de corte is set per convocatoria and depends on the plazas offered and the number of candidates. It is often not published in advance, so aim to maximise your score rather than target a threshold.

Check reclutamiento.defensa.gob.es for the official convocatoria. It is the authoritative source for format and calendar.
